Originally designed by Gerald Genta for the first trans-Atlantic flight over the North Pole, the Polerouter is a fantastic little Universal Geneve with historical relevance.
The Polerouter was produced in 1954 by Universal Genève in partnership with Scandinavian Airline System (SAS) by a then 24-year-old Gerald Genta (yes, that one). Universal Genève developed the automatic Polerouter to be more resistant to the strong magnetic fields at the North and South poles. In fact, the flight route is engraved on the case back. Originally, the watch did not feature a date window, but the example we have here features a well-placed date window at 3 oclock.
